The Conception Harbour Ironworkers Committee
will be launching a play this summer which celebrates the history of Newfoundland's
ironworkers. The play, entitled "Living the High Life,"
was written by playwright Mary Ellen Doyle. It is a full length play in two acts
which focuses on the fictional Murphy family and explores the different aspects of an
Ironworker life. It is based on a young man, Mike Murphy, whose family has been
involved in ironwork since the turn of the century, when the first skyscrapers went up in
New York. Ironworkers play a significant role in the economic and social
fabric of the people of Conception Bay Centre, where the play is set.
